Hagar (Hajar), the mother of Prophet Ishmael, is remembered through the rituals of Hajj. Her struggle between Safa and Marwah continues to be reenacted by millions, symbolizing patience, trust, and reliance on God.

These stories remind us that true greatness is defined by faith, character, and devotion to God.

In this opening episode of Neglected Rights of Women, Dr. Shabir Ally and Dr. Safiyyah Ally introduce the work of Abd al-Halim Abu Shuqqah, whose landmark study gathers Quranic verses and authentic hadith on women’s dignity, participation, and rights in early Islam. They explore the striking argument that the Quran was far ahead of its time, then ask a difficult question: if these teachings were already there, what went wrong? This episode looks at how regression, stagnation, cultural carryover, and misinterpretation may have obscured rights the Quran had already established. It also sets the stage for the series ahead, which will examine women’s role in society, family life, politics, attire, and other debated issues through a close reading of scripture and hadith.

In our 29th episode of The Quran in Dialogue with Other Faiths and Scriptures, Dr. Shabir Ally explores one of the most persistent religious hopes across civilizations: the expectation of a future savior, messiah, or renewer who will set the world right. Why does this idea appear so widely across religions? And what does the Quran actually say about it? Dr. Shabir looks closely at commonly cited Quran verses about Jesus and explains why they do not clearly predict a second coming, then compares this with Jewish hopes for a Davidic king, Christian belief in the return of Christ, and parallel expectations in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Zoroastrianism.
