Iran has dramatically escalated its confrontation with the United States, with the IRGC claiming via Press TV that it struck eight US military installations across the Gulf, including the Ali al-Salem airbase in Kuwait and the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain, in a pre-dawn missile and drone assault. The IRGC said all eight facilities were destroyed; Kuwait, Bahrain, and the US have confirmed that attacks took place but report interceptions and no major damage to American sites, with none corroborating that eight installations were successfully hit. Iran framed the operation as retaliation for fresh US strikes, which CENTCOM says were ordered by President Trump after Iran allegedly hit the Panama-flagged tanker Kiku near the Strait of Hormuz. Trump warned on Truth Social that Washington could "militarily complete the job" and suggested the Islamic Republic could cease to exist, while Iranian lawmaker Ebrahim Azizi called Iran's actions "ceasefire management," not escalation, insisting Tehran controls passage through the strait. With Bahrain reporting drones, another vessel struck off Oman, and Vice President JD Vance warning that "violence will be met with violence," fears of a wider war are mounting.
